The Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning (VPTL) now provides a campus-wide license to Poll Everywhere. All Stanford University faculty, staff and students have access to the web-based, smart device and SMS text-friendly audience response system that can support interactive classroom instruction and real-time student engagement.

Instructors can use Poll Everywhere to conduct instant polls, run Q&As, help assess student understanding of class material, use anonymity during discussions, create word clouds that weigh audience responses, check attendance or conduct live, graded quizzes. The responses can be integrated into Stanford’s learning management system, Canvas.

Poll Everywhere is web-based, eliminating the need for buying, installing, or maintaining physical clickers. Users create activities through a simple web interface and can embed them directly into PowerPoint, Keynote, or Google Slides presentations.

The tool can be used both in the classroom setting and during campus events such as academic conferences and alumni gatherings.

“If you have a Stanford email address, you can now sign into Poll Everywhere,” said Michael Rouan, VPTL senior director for academic technology innovation describing campus-wide access through the new site license, which was negotiated with the help of Stanford UIT. Existing user accounts will be migrated over to the new campus-wide license.

“We’re excited to expand the engagement options for anyone presenting to an audience on campus,” added Rouan. “We’ll also have no restrictions on the number of questions you can ask in a class, the number of students able to respond, or anything else that might get in the way of your designing the best possible interactive learning experience for your classroom, conference, public talk, or alumni event.”

VPTL is presenting an on-campus introduction to Poll Everywhere for interested faculty, staff, and students on September 11, 2018 in Skilling Auditorium at 494 Lomita Mall. The event starts at 10 a.m. with an overview of basic functionality that will also be live-streamed and recorded for on-demand viewing. A more informal Poll Everywhere office hour session will provide more in-depth info for more experienced users immediately following the intro event at 11 a.m.

More information about the September 11 Poll Everywhere orientation, access to Poll Everywhere, and links to resources for using the tool in classroom settings can be found at polleverywhere.stanford.edu.
