VPTL Grants and Programs

Take advantage of the VPTL grants and programs designed for Stanford faculty and instructional teams to explore new directions for course, curriculum, and digital technology development and support priorities expressed by departments, programs, centers and schools.

Innovation Grant Program

The new 2017-2018 Innovation Grant Program combines grant and curriculum development programs from prior years, including Faculty College and the Seed Grant Program. This year's program features three levels of investment in pedagogical innovation to more effectively serve Stanford’s evolving teaching and learning needs and VPTL’s mission:

  • Teaching Advancement Grants: Modest grants (up to $2500) that are reviewed on a quarterly basis and support the exploration of and experimentation with new or improved pedagogical approaches in current courses and educational programs.
  • Innovation Implementation Grants: Medium-sized grants (up to $30,000) that are reviewed annually and involve the full-scale design, implementation, and evaluation of a new or redesigned course, curriculum, or digital tool.
  • Strategic Initiatives and Curricular Innovation Grants: Larger grants that support highly impactful changes in department or program curricula (e.g., new online or blended master’s degree, revamped introductory curriculum) and align with VPTL strategic initiatives.

iPads for Learning

The iPads for Learning program investigates the use of iPads can potentially impact teaching, learning, and research when applied in the service of specific goals. Each quarter the program committee supports a select number of Stanford faculty and instructor proposals that demonstrate the potential to make a contribution to Stanford's understanding of using iPads to support teaching, learning, and research.
